In this session, Searchlight Cyber’s Lead Threat Intelligence Engineer, Rob Fitzsimons, will share our most recent observations of the key trends in the cyber threat landscape.

The dark web gives us an unprecedented window into the cybercriminal underground. Monitoring dark web forums, marketplaces, and hidden sites allows us to gather intelligence directly from the source – the cybercriminals themselves – on how techniques, technologies, and tactics evolve over time.

This talk will take the pulse of dark web trends so far in 2024, focused on three core areas:

  • Gaining access – the techniques cybercriminals are using to initially breach the network – including credential theft, stealer logs, and impersonation attacks – based on intelligence we gather on Initial Access Brokers operating on dark web forums.
  • Action on objectives– the types of attacks that cybercriminals are implementing once they have gained access to the network, including Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS), data breaches, ransomware, and physical threats.
  • Understanding the operational environment– how changes in the cyber threat landscape and within an organization’s own environment should be factored into a continuous assessment of security risks and priorities.
